Living Kitchen Farm is only a dream at present -- something I would love to do if and when it's possible.
The design and layout are mine, the result of several years of noodling on the idea. I finally hired an illustrator to give form to the picture I had developed in my mind's eye. He painted it in water colors on art board and scanned it to create a digital copy.
I offer it up here for purposes of dialog and discovery. I don't have the million dollars it would take to buy land (30 acres) and get it off the ground. But if you do and would like to talk, email me.
The idea is this: a sustainable farm that offers food and other products, one of the most important being education, to a community. It would be a destination place -- where families could come and spend the day learning about how food is produced, eating it, taking it home, and finding resources to support their sustainable efforts on their own property.
Beneath the illustration is a legend identifying the purpose of each building and part of the farm:
LEGEND:
1 = Farm administrative offices
2 = Fresh produce stand selling in-season produce from the farm
3 = Vegan restaurant, supplied by the farm's gardens
4 = Lifestyle store (kitchen equipment and supplies, books, media, etc.)
5 = Training center (for lectures, seminars, courses)
6 = Retail garden center and demonstration garden and hoophouse
7 = Live animal "petting zoo" and demonstration area
8 = Cabana for concerts (seating in adjacent open area) and relaxing
9 = Rental cabins for extended stays on the farm
10 = Chapel for weddings, services, or personal use
11 = Farm interns dormitory
12 = Farm equipment barn
13 = Composting facility (using plant matter from gardens and animal wastes)
14 = Hoophouses and greenhouses
15 = Windmills for power generation
16 = Fruit and berry orchards
17 = Vegetable gardens and kitchen/herb garden for restaurant
18 = Rest station (restrooms, refreshments for farm visitors)
